Oliver Stedman Government Center Renovation

Overview:

The Oliver Stedman Government Center is a 48,000 s/f facility located in the southern part of the state in the town of Wakefield. Built in 1970, this three-story main building is an excellent example of modern architecture in Rhode Island. The campus is home to the RI Traffic Tribunal, Coastal Resources Management Council and branch locations for the Division of Motor Vehicles, the Department of Children, Youth & Families, the Department of Labor & Training and the Department of Human Services.

The purpose of this project is to improve the energy efficiency and sustainability of this facility by replacing aging mechanical systems including HVAC equipment, roofing, exterior curtain walls and windows to pilot the LEED for Sustainable Sites design process.

The new energy efficient curtain wall windows with Low-E glazing offer improved resistance to moisture, wind and heat keeping the interior environment warmer in the winter & cooler in the summer, while offering more natural light and energy savings. Restoration of the exterior masonry façade will serve to beautify and protect the façade from further deterioration from water infiltration for years to come. Upgrades to the building’s HVAC and mechanical systems to improve energy efficiency.
